Time is scarce

The most scarce resource is your time and attention. Specially if you live and breathe “tech”, it’s very easy to get sidetracked and distracted.

Everyone is unique

We should celebrate everyone’s uniqueness but also understanding that we’re also not so different from each other. I’ve learned to think less of myself and really try to listen and be more effortful in understanding other people’s point of view.

Work is just work

Work is just work. Business is just a series of transactions, numbers, and deliverables. Money is just an instrument. They all come and go.


I want to someday go to Europe and explore the rich history of the world. It’s very unlikely that I’ll be able to go to all 7 continents of the world, that’s why I’m at least just aiming 6.


It’s my birthday. Although I don’t really believe in “just wishing” without really putting the action and effort to it, it’s still a good reminder on what do you want at that specific moment.

Writing a non-fiction

I want to publish a non-fiction book someday. I’m not yet sure about the content, but it’s something that I want to do.

Blockchain craze

There is no stopping in this Blockchain craze. From cryptocurrencies, DeFi, NFTs, and now the Metaverses. It’s going to be an interesting next few years in this space and industry.

Ideal job

The ideal job exists. It’s not perfect, but ideal. It’s when you’re both learning and earning, and at the same time pursuing an interest.

Enjoy the little things

Enjoy the little things. When we’re working towards a huge and ambitious goal, we tend to be anxious about how we can get there.


This past few months with the pandemic and lockdown, I haven’t had a good chance of fixing my hairstyle. I stopped caring about it couple of years ago.

Taking naps

Taking a nap is something I often forget these past few months because of working from home. I am a serial napper.

Love is effortful

Love is effortful and attentive. It’s a good disturbance in our lives. It is a continuous process that we develop on a daily basis.

Being different to be sucessful

In order to be successful, you have to do things differently from others. The key words are “do” and “different”; and both of them needs to be present.

Political Season

It’s the political season again in the Philippines and my whole network back there are all over places expressing their opinions and political views.


Investing is better than saving. But saving is way better than spending so much. Investing is a means of earning more money by using your existing money as an instrument.

Thinking of topics

There are so many topics you can talk about in life. There are things that are easily relatable to your actual experience, then there are those that are more abstract, some are just really so random.

How much is your time?

How much is your time? That is the question you should always ask yourself. Over and over again, we have to know that the most valuable resource in this planet is your time and attention.


Never go to autopilot. This is a state when you’re just trying to live the day, expecting a better tomorrow. I have to keep reminding myself from time to time if what I’m doing is something that is within my ideals and interests, or I’m just riding someone’s (or something) wave.

Keep Producing

Keep producing no matter how hard it gets. As a creative worker who is a programmer & software architect, a business owner, a startup advisor, a writer, an amateur content creator, and a lot more; they all revolve in the digital realm of “you must produce something.

Ideas are cheap

Ideas are cheap. As a noun, it means nothing but a reference to something that could be great. It’s just an abstract concept that doesn’t have any tangible way for either you or others to experience.

Money is just an instrument

Money is just an instrument. It’s a means to get or achieve something. It’s not the reason to live nor should be the cause of break-ups and damaging relationships.

NFT Hype

There is so much happening in the NFT space right now, it’s so interesting, fascinating, and intimidating at the same time.


Newsletters are fun. It’s a way to consume information that are specific for an audience. I actually subscribe to a bunch of them.

Meetings - Productivity Killers

Meetings are one of the killers of productivity. Specially if you have other functions or roles beside attending and organizing meetings.

Online Trolls

Trolls are people on the internet who have the intention of getting in to your nerves by distracting you with bashful or hurtful comments.

Serial Achiever

The best advice you can give to someone (or even yourself) is “to become a serial achiever.” Not “to be rich”, “to be successful”, “to be the best X professional”.

Vertical Monitors

I never really understood why I wanted a vertically mounted monitor. I mean, it’s cool and “different” but I still haven’t seen the real use case of it.

Lockdown Fatigue

Lockdown fatigue is real. At first, I thought that this is something that is just playing on my head that I can eventually overcome.

Five Minutes

Five minutes seem to a be a lot of time but also too little in the grander scheme of things. You can a bug in a line of code, in few minutes, but it might take you days to solve the real issues around it.

Wrong Side of the Bed

Waking up at the wrong side of the bed. That is a classic saying when it’s early in the morning and people around you notices that you’re not in the best mood as they observe your face.

Time Zones

The concept of time zones are amazing and funny at the same time. It’s interesting to know that the other side of the world would be sleeping while you’re awake.

Server and Networking

Server networking and maintenance are the things I didn’t particularly like when I was younger. I really did like programming, coding, and general solutions architecture but I never really liked getting my hands dirty with server operations.

Keep Going

A productive and “good” day can be ruined almost instantly before the day ends. It’s very important to set the night right in order for the next day to be meaningful and well energised.


Retirement is a topic that I haven’t really figured out that much yet. I just know two fundamental things that would apply to me:


Plants, plants, plants - and more plants. My wife is really into plants and I support her on to that one.

Planning the week

I like planning for the week ahead. It’s something I realised that is so effective in my line of work. If I don’t plan my schedule well, I will just be reactive of things and won’t have any focus.


Breakfast as they say is the most important meal of the day. I’m not really sure if that applies to me.


I like waking up early in the morning when everything is still quiet and calm. The sunrise gives me a feeling of warmth that radiates energy for the day ahead.

To Do

You don’t wake up thinking “What should I do today?” For sure, you know what you want to do, you know what you “need” to do.


Reading is the most immersive and informative way of understanding a topic or subject. Although this takes a lot of time and effort, especially when you’re just beginning with your journey as a reader, it will be a fun and fulfilling activity to take daily.

12 hours of sleep

12 hours of sleep. Wow, it’s been a while since I had that. I can’t really remember when was the last time that happened.


I believe vaccines will save many people. I believe in the science behind it. Back in high school, it fascinated me about how vaccines are actually formed.

Asynchronous Work

The workplace has transformed in the last 2 years because of the pandemic. There is now an emergence of concept around the type of work you do as a knowledge worker.

Chasing Success

Don’t chase success, aim progress. It took me a while to get it, but that’s the reason I don’t feel excited or joyous anymore after achieving or hitting a milestone.


I like sunsets. It means a lot to me metaphorically. Romantically, I enjoyed seeing sunsets with my wife. There was this one time at a beach in the Philippines when we were riding a boat and we just looked at how beautiful the sunset was.


Terminals, shells, and CLIs are some of the recent things that I keep tinkering about. I like to make them colourful, using a lot of plugins to automate my typings, and all the goodness of just executing commands.

Microsoft Journey so Far

Microsoft has been a big part of my career even until today. I don’t even know where to start my Microsoft journey.

That one thing

The first thing that I do when I wake up is to think of “that one thing” for the day. This ceremony has been embodied for me since I was young.

Anger Management

I would say that one of the best things that change in my character is how I can remain calm despite of stress and general disappointments in life.

Self Manage

I consider myself as a self-managed individual in terms of career and lifestyle. It occurred to me I don’t want anyone to manage “me” personally in order to perform tasks and deliver results.

Early Bird

I don’t really struggle to wake up early. Today I woke up at around 04:00 AM and it wasn’t a challenge at all.

Social Media

I’ve had a love and hate relationship with social media platforms in the past decade. Even until today, I haven’t really had a solid stance about these.


I’ve been contemplating for a while now if I want to pursue creating videos for [[YouTube]] and [[Facebook]]. I have a lot of ideas on various topics, such as from creating video tutorials, to talk about life and my family.

Writing Everyday

Writing every day is one of my goals for this year. I think I’m doing really well on that front. Obviously there are days I wasn’t able to write about because of various reasons such as being on a holiday or focusing on other activities, but the habit is there and well developed already.


Messaging is probably one of the most interesting topic in software for me. This is a state when a “message” is being sent from an origin to a destination.


Cleaning as a concept is very foreign to me until I became fully independent in life. I didn’t really understand back then the reason I should clean anything.


I don’t really consider myself as a hardcore gamer. At least right now. I’ve always been a casual gamer, where I enjoyed it the most when I’m playing with friends or trying to immerse with the story.

Back to Normal

There is no going back to normal. It took me a while to get it, but that is the sad and harsh truth.

Pair Programming

Collaborating using share screen is fun. I think this is the modern way of doing pair-programming. This is a very efficient method for both people to learn, share ideas, and collaborate.

Human Mind

The human mind and body are funny and amazing at the same time. We do a lot of things that make little sense on a high level or just by looking at it literally.

Hybrid Cloud

Hybrid cloud is the trend right now I see in a lot of companies and enterprises. The term hybrid has grown too in the last couple of years.

Master Plan

All things that need to be built have some sort of “master plan.” When you’re building a house or a building, you have a reference point of what it would look like in a design document.


Grief is one of the most difficult feeling in this world. This is probably the most painful emotional response to what’s happening in your world.

Thinking in Pictures

My brain works better when I think in pictures. This is probably why I thrive as a software engineer and architect.


Security is such a broad topic but is simple in principle. It’s about protecting something, either that is you, your family, or properties against unwanted scenarios.


When I was younger, I thought that you have an unlimited number of energy in a day. You can do school, play games, interact with friends & family, do homework, and even dream about what’s going to happen tomorrow.


Anime has been a big part of my childhood. The young me have watched, read, and played various anime media content.


Coffee has been a big part of my life for the past decade. For obvious reasons like keeping me wake up at night doing some work, to making sure I’m well energized in the morning.

Organising calendars

Organising my calendar has been my system since I was in college. It means a lot to me when I know that it’s in my outlook calendar.

Clean Desk

Having a clean desk is something I aspire to every now and then. I’ve been trying to find different ways to have an optimise working environment for my creative and logical output (programming and presenting).

Watching Movies

Watching movies is my hobby. It’s been like that since I was young. I think it all began when I was so fascinated with advanced graphic designs of things.

Losing Weight

Losing weight is actually very simple. You’ll literally just have to eat less. It’s that simple. Then, of course, losing weight does not really equate to being healthy.

Event Planning

Planning an event is both fun and frustrating at the same time. It’s fun because you get to do something that is servicing for others (such as a community or group of people).


There are so many things you can talk about, friendship. I would like to focus on the benefits and the positive side of it, rather than the downside.


Non-Fungible Tokens or also known as NFTs are a big hype right now. It’s been around for quite some time now, but we’re just seeing more use cases and platforms emerging as part of this trend.


Sydney is home for me. When I first came here on 2011, I already knew that this place is home and this is where I want to grow a family.

Mental Block

Sometimes we experience a state of “mental block”. It’s when we can’t think creatively or logically to solve a specific problem.


Trust is a currency that is both common and unique to humanity. Before currencies came to life, we use trust as the means of transaction.

Midnight Oil

There are some legitimate excuse in my opinion to burn the midnight oil - aka work late at night. I do this so that I don’t have to work over the weekends, and I can spend a lot of quality time with my family.


Winter, spring, summer, or fall - I love bits and pieces of them. I love that on winter I can have a cool environment to sleep on.


Community is a place where you find people with similar interests or profession. I’ve been involved with the tech community for a decade now, and I still love meeting new people and talk about ideas, problems, and solutions about tech!


Practice makes perfect. Maybe not “perfect” for everyone, but close to the objective or your goal. It takes a lot of repetition to truly master a craft or a profession, you need to spend a lot of those hours in order to learn what works and what doesn’t work.

Building a House

Building a house is not easy. There are so many things involved and it can get complicated and complex really quick.


Weekends are very important to me now. Back then, I treat it as a way to do more work while others are busy with their personal lives.


Joining or starting a start-up is not as simple as it could be. There are a lot of complexity involved. From finding and partnering with the right set of people, to creating and building the actual product.


I’m particularly liking the Markdown format in creating notes. Thanks to [[RoamResearch]] and [[Hugo]] (with the whole JAMstack craze), I am being sucked in this cult.


It’s fun recording podcasts episode as this is a way for me to learn (or refresh) on topics with a different perspective.


Overwhelmed. I think that’s a state when you have a lot of things in your mind and you’re fighting an internal battle on how to deal with your problems.


Motivation is something that everyone needs in order to thrive in their day. Having motivation is like taking a bath: not because you had it yesterday, you’ll be okay for today and tomorrow.


Running is an activity that I particularly like. It doesn’t have a lot of rules, and it’s a sport or game that is natural to all of us humans.

Productive Day

A productive day at work means I get to finish tasks that I committed on time. This rarely happens because either the estimates are wrong, or there are just so many things that happens unexpectedly.


Learn to shut up. It’s easier said than done. Especially if you grew up to speak what’s on your mind. However, we weren’t taught how to listen - like properly listen to a person, surrounding, a video, and even thoughts.


There is no such thing as perfect. You’ll just have to chase what’s going to be perfect for you. You will feel constant disappointment time and time again.


Focus is very important. This is what sets a task to be done in months or days into hours and minutes.


Sleep is very important for the obvious health reasons. What I also found out is that having a good sleep allows me to be a creative thinker when I have to think of new ideas.


Sometimes I don’t believe that there is such thing as a “deadline” or end of life for a project. You just define what you want to build given the time, resources, and talent that is available for you.

Binaural Beats

[[Binaural Beats]] is a type of music that really works for me. It helps me stay relaxed, calm, and focused. This is my go to playlist when I need to work at night.

Achieving Success

Achieving “success” is actually very simple, but the process is often hard. For example, you want to be an author, all you have to do is to keep on writing - over and over, day in and out.

What is success?

What is success? Spoiler alert: It’s relative. What it means is that success would mean differently to each and every individual.

Online Influencers

Be careful with influencers. Most of the time, they are after their own agenda. You’re just a number in their likes, views, and subscribers.

Keep on Writing

I have to keep on writing. Write what I feel. Write what I know. Start it, even if it’s just a draft.

Feeling Nervous

It’s few minutes before my talk, and I still feel a little bit nervous about it. I’ve been speaking to conferences for almost a decade now and I had all sorts of experiences with it already.

Being Busy

Being busy does not always equate to being productive. You can just be in a state of busy because you think you’re doing something important.


It’s okay to be bored from time to time. It means that you don’t have something that is urgent and important.
