Frequently Asked Questions

How do I create a new routine?

Tap the "Parent settings" button on the home screen, enter your PIN (default: 1234), then tap "Add Routine." You can add steps with emojis, custom photos, voice recordings, and timers.

How do Smart Suggestions work?

When you set scheduled times for your routines in Parent Mode, Routinely will automatically suggest the right routine when you open the app. For example, if "Morning Routine" is set for 7:00 AM and you open the app at 6:50 AM, it will suggest starting the morning routine right away. This is a Pro feature.

How do I sync routines to my Calendar?

In Parent Mode, go to Settings and enable "Calendar Sync" under Smart Suggestions. Routinely will create a dedicated calendar and add events for each scheduled routine. You'll need to grant Calendar access when prompted.

How do I sync routines to Reminders?

In Parent Mode, go to Settings and enable "Reminders Sync." Routinely will create reminder lists for each routine with individual step items. Grant Reminders access when prompted.

How do notifications work?

Routinely sends gentle local notifications when it's time for a scheduled routine. You can snooze (5 minutes) or skip directly from the notification. Enable notifications in Parent Mode settings. All notifications are processed on-device โ€” no data is sent to any server.

Do my routines sync across devices?

Yes! If you're signed into iCloud, your routines, settings, and completion history sync automatically across all your family's iPads. No account or signup required.

What is Pro and what's included free?

The free version includes up to 3 routines with 6 steps each โ€” enough for most families to get started. Pro unlocks unlimited routines and steps, smart suggestions, calendar sync, reminders sync, custom themes, rewards, and more. Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription.

Is my child's data safe?

Absolutely. Routinely stores all data on your device and in your private iCloud account. We have no servers, no analytics, no tracking, and no ads. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

The app isn't reading steps aloud. What should I check?

Make sure "Read Steps Aloud" is enabled in Parent Mode settings. Also check that your iPad isn't in Silent Mode (the physical switch on the side) and that the volume is turned up.

How do I change the PIN?

In Parent Mode, scroll to Settings and look for the PIN section. The default PIN is 1234. You can change it to any 4-digit code.

Can I use Siri to start a routine?

Yes! Say "Hey Siri, start Morning Routine" (or any routine name). Routinely registers Siri shortcuts for each routine automatically.

How do I delete all my data?

You can delete individual routines in Parent Mode, or uninstall the app to remove all local data. To also remove iCloud data, go to Settings โ†’ Apple ID โ†’ iCloud โ†’ Manage Storage โ†’ Routinely.

Troubleshooting

Routines aren't syncing between devices

Ensure both devices are signed into the same iCloud account and have iCloud Drive enabled. Open Settings โ†’ Apple ID โ†’ iCloud โ†’ iCloud Drive and make sure it's on.

Notifications aren't appearing

Check that notifications are enabled for Routinely in Settings โ†’ Notifications โ†’ Routinely. Also make sure you've set a scheduled time for the routine in Parent Mode and that Focus/Do Not Disturb isn't blocking alerts.

Calendar events aren't showing up

Verify that Calendar access is granted in Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Calendars โ†’ Routinely. Then toggle Calendar Sync off and on in Parent Mode to force a re-sync.
