1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Murmura application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the App or by updating the effective date above. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
2. Description of Service
Murmura is a mobile application that transforms PDF, EPUB, text, and Markdown documents into narrated audio experiences using neural text-to-speech technology. The App provides:
- Document import and parsing (PDF, EPUB, TXT, MD, and web URLs)
- Neural text-to-speech narration with word-level synchronization
- 300+ neural voices across 75+ languages
- Customizable reading experience with themes and font controls
- Offline narration caching
- Optional iCloud sync across Apple devices
3. User Accounts & Eligibility
Murmura does not require account creation. The App uses your Apple ID for purchases and optional iCloud sync. You must be at least 13 years of age (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the App.
4. User Responsibilities
By using Murmura, you agree to:
- Use the App in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Only import documents that you have the legal right to access and use.
- Not use the App to process, distribute, or create narrations of content that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
- Not attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the App.
- Not use the App for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose.
- Not attempt to circumvent any usage limitations, security measures, or access controls.
5. Intellectual Property
Your Content
You retain full ownership of all documents you import into Murmura. We do not claim any rights over your documents or the content within them. By using the App, you grant us a limited, temporary license to process your document text solely for the purpose of generating narration audio.
Our Content
The Murmura application, including its design, code, user interface, branding, and documentation, is owned by Murmura and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the App without our express written permission.
Third-Party Content
Neural voice synthesis is provided by Microsoft's text-to-speech technology. The generated audio is for your personal use within the App. Redistribution of generated audio may be subject to Microsoft's terms of service.
6. Purchases & Payments
Free Tier
Murmura offers a free tier with limited functionality, including a maximum of 5 documents, and access to 2 voices.
Murmura Pro
Murmura Pro is available as a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase:
- Murmura Pro: $79.99 one-time purchase — unlocks all features permanently
Billing & Restoration
- All payments are processed through the Apple App Store.
- The purchase is permanent and tied to your Apple ID — there is no subscription and no recurring charges.
- If you change devices or reinstall the app, you can restore your purchase at no additional cost through Settings → Restore Purchase.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their App Store refund policies. We do not process refunds directly. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
7. Privacy
Your use of Murmura is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. By using the App, you agree to our Privacy Policy.
8. Third-Party Services
Murmura integrates with the following third-party services:
- Microsoft Edge TTS: For neural text-to-speech synthesis. Your document text is sent to Microsoft servers for audio generation.
- Apple iCloud/CloudKit: For optional cross-device sync.
- Apple StoreKit: For in-app purchase processing.
Your use of these third-party services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party service providers.
9. Disclaimers
The App is provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
- That the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
- That the quality or accuracy of text-to-speech narration will meet your expectations.
- That the App will be compatible with all documents or file formats.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Murmura and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data, profits, or revenue
- Business interruption
- Damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App
- Any unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
Our total liability for any claims related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Murmura and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
12. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Upon termination:
- Your right to use the App ceases immediately.
- All data stored locally on your device remains under your control.
- Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will survive (including Sections 5, 9, 10, 11, and 13).
13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Australia, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any disputes arising under these Terms shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules, unless you are entitled to bring a claim in small claims court.
14. General Provisions
- Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Murmura regarding the App.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
- Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
- Assignment: You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
